Frinj Mraz Family Farms Geisha Yeast Washed
A California-grown Geisha — rare enough that most people never get to try one. Coffee blossom and lemon verbena over a clean cane-sugar sweetness. This is September's Pinnacle coffee, and it deserves a pour-over you pay attention to.
Mraz Family Farms is a 17-acre organic farm in the South Morro Hills area of Oceanside, California, run by musician Jason Mraz and his wife Christina. Coffee arrived in 2015, when about 2,300 arabica trees went into the ground alongside the farm's long-established Hass avocados — a project inspired by California coffee pioneer Jay Ruskey of FRINJ. The farm grows eleven arabica varieties, interplanted among avocado and tropical fruit rather than farmed as a monoculture. Ripening slowly on a harvest calendar opposite most of the coffee world, the cherries yield cups that are sweet, floral, and unusually complex.
