A biochemist tasted one cup of coffee that changed his life, walked away from science, and spent the next decade proving how good coffee can be.

Founded by the 2024 US Brewers Cup Champion.

Our Story

It started with one magic cup.

Weihong Zhang came to the United States for a PhD in biochemistry. Coffee was a bitter energy drink until a chance cupping: a Kenya, bright with blueberry and milk chocolate. That cup showed him the difference between drinking coffee and tasting it. He left the lab, and in 2017 founded BlendIn to chase that experience and share it.

A scientist's rigor

Roasted by a national champion.

The scientist's mindset never left. Weihong designs every roast profile himself. In 2024 he won the US Brewers Cup with a fully decaffeinated Typica, a first on that stage, and represented the USA at the World Brewers Cup. He is also a long-time Best of Panama sensory judge, one of a few trusted to evaluate Panama Geisha at the highest level.

    Every coffee we roast is traceable to a specific farm, often a specific lot, picked at peak ripeness and roasted in small batches in Houston. We pursue quality at every step, because you can taste the difference.

    Specialty coffee can feel intimidating. It shouldn't. Our cafes and our community are built to welcome anyone who wants to spend time around great coffee, no expertise required.
